Details: Title: Colorado’s Covert Cretaceous: The vertebrate assemblage of the Williams Fork Formation Speaker: Dr. A. B. Heckert, Professor of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina Dr. A.B. Heckert is a professor and vertebrate paleontologist in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he has taught courses on the history of Earth and its life since 2005. He also oversees the department’s McKinney Geology Teaching Museum. Heckert earned his BS in geology from Denison University in Ohio, and completed a stratigraphy-based MS and a PhD in microvertebrate paleontology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he led numerous trips collecting fossils for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Every year since 2006 he has led “Triassic trips,” or field courses involving Appalachian Students, to one or more of the Four Corners states, including several “Cretaceous Cruises” to the Williams Fork Formation near Rangely, CO.
