Settle in on the lawn of Two Rivers Winery for an evening with the Grand more...0 Valley’s favorite bluegrass band in the shadow of Colorado National Monument. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic dinner. Wine will be available by the glass or bottle (no other adult beverages allowed). Tickets are $15 at Two Rivers Winery (2087 Broadway), The Art Center (1803 N 7th St) or artcenterguild.org. If not sold out, tickets at the gate are $20. All proceeds benefit the Art Center of Western Colorado. This summer’s concerts are sponsored by ANB Bank and Friends of The Art Center.

Visitors can sample a range of creative happenings and experience authentic small-town more...0 mountain culture in the historic town of Silverton, Colorado (elevation 9318 feet). Silverton Creates! will kick off with a free outdoor concert on Friday, September 8, featuring the wildly popular Latin band Nosotros (salsa, jazz, cumbia, rock), hailing from New Mexico. The music will continue throughout the weekend, with American blues musician Cary Morin taking the stage on Saturday evening. Other weekend activities will include open studio tours, heritage activities, hands-on art workshops, demonstrations, performances, healing arts and more!

This year’s History Alive Chautauqua will feature actors portraying five renowned authors: Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Nellie Bly, and Rachel Carson. Come learn about their lives and their contributions to literature, journalism, science, and social justice. All events are free and open to the public. History Alive events will take place September 8-9, 2023. See the website for all locations and schedules. Most presentations will be held at Love Recital Hall at CMU, 1221 N 12th St, Grand Junction, CO 81501. 5th Annual Poetry Slam Riot

The largest 2SLGBTQ+ regional poetry slam in the Four Corners Region is coming to the Avalon Theater! This year the slam is a free all-ages show more...0 (mature content, parental discretion advised)! Doors open at 5:00 PM with the show starting at 6:00 PM. Free tickets can be reserved in advance through The Avalon Theater. Slamming Bricks is an annual slam poetry competition in its fifth year produced by the Western Colorado Writer’s Forum and organized by Caleb Ferganchick during Colorado West Pride’s Pride Week in Grand Junction, Colorado. Slamming Bricks is an intersectional competition exploring resistance and liberation in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Poets from all over the American West compete in four rounds of poetry in a battle for the brick. Slamming Bricks has featured Colorado Poet Laureate, Bobby LeFebre, and star of HBO’s Emmy-nominated show We’re Here, Eureka O’Hara. A Slamming Bricks documentary by Fruita cinematographer, Rachel DeWeber, will be screened prior to the poetry slam and a special stand-up comedy performance by Joke Junction’s, Emilie Stickley, will also be featured. Live ASL interpretation is provided during the event and a live stream will be available for remote viewing. Various nonprofits will be on site to connect community members to information and resources.
