Topic description: The worst response anyone can have to your fiction isn’t “I hate it,” or “That was clumsily done,” it’s “What’s the point?” We talk at length about the technical aspects of fiction, like setting, dialogue, character and plot, but they all serve the greater purpose of creating stories that move our readers emotionally or intellectually. Whether we intentionally mean to do it or not, almost all successful fiction has a point or multiple points. In English class, teachers call those points “themes." Join long-time short story author and creative writing teacher James Van Pelt in a discussion of how to write with a point. Click here for the event website |

of bringing folks together to create and share art in and for our community at an exuberant celebration to brighten up the cold winter months. Leading up to the February 5th event, local artists and teachers will be hosting a variety of workshops where projects from giant puppets to wild costumes to lantern building to poetry to choreography will be explored. It is the hope that the projects created will be brought to the festival to show off during a non-motorized lantern lit procession, called the Handmade Parade, through the bare cottonwood trees and on our celebration stage throughout the evening. The Town of Palisade is partnering with the festival to provide a family friendly bon-fire and warming stations, as well as a lovely performance tent. Festive food trucks and beverages will be available too. Dress warm with a layer of wild on top and come get weird with us! For more information please find us on Facebook, or email us at singupthesuninfo@gmail.com or call Alice at 970-208-4438
