August 16, 7:00 pm-10:00pm |
Location: |
KAFM Radio Room, 1310 Ute Ave. Grand Junction, CO |
Details: |
Bailey, a gentle giant of a man armed with a formidable array of unconventional instruments, has been blending punk, blues, pop and soul influences for his entire musical career, without any regard to what sells at the time. His new record, Long Time Comin’, is a celebration of that no-fracks aesthetic, featuring new material alongside fully-realized re-recordings of old songs, all rough edges and loud noises camouflaging a remarkable knack for pop songwriting and mind-bending musicianship. panel discussion and Q&A.
In 2012, Dawn & Brian moved to Grand Junction, CO from Albuquerque, NM with no jobs, and no place to live. Nine years later, they’re farming on an acre and a half of land at Green Junction Farmstead, feeding over 100 families every week with fresh, healthy produce. The rich, living soil, vibrant flora and fauna, and tight-knit community present on the farm didn’t appear overnight, but grew from years of long days and late nights. From the years of hardships and triumphs, heartbreak and joy, a universal truth emerges; healing the soil heals both planet and people.

TONEY ROCKS
Radio Room Concert

pen to dig for a not-so self-evident truth, chasing an unheard sound and rubbing a match against a brick wall looking for a spark. There doesn't seem to be another way for him. He's crossed the great barrier into the realms of a chaotic maelstrom where his obsession has taken over all reason. Ask him what his style or genre is and Toney Rocks will probably say, “#$%! I dunno… you tell me. You just gotta listen to it”.
He approaches sound and story like exploring uncharted territory versus existing in the safe realms of an established dogma. The way he layers his smooth dark voice over haunting psychedelic live loops guided by deeply introspective lyrics, it's evident that he doesn't hear it like anyone else; nor does he want to. After seeing Toney Rocks' official showcase at the 2019 CDbaby DYI Musicians Conference, NPR's Bob Boilen offered that, Toney Rocks has “a wonderfully unique voice…”.
