Department’s annual Open House has transformed from an event for high school students into an outdoor art extravaganza, welcoming university students, high school students, and community members alike. We invite you to join us at our sixth annual Artober Fest, on Thursday, October 21 from 10AM-3PM, on Delta Field just east of the Jac Kephart Fine Arts building on the Colorado Mesa University campus. Here are some of the activities planned for the day: Start your day at the Information station and pick up an Artober punch card. Get a punch on your card as you visit each booth. MED (Mesa Emerging Designers) will be giving away 2021 Artober Fest T-shirts to everyone who has a completed a punch card, while supplies last. Dust off your hands for the Sidewalk Chalk Contest, limited to five teams or individuals, with prizes awarded to the top three. Chalk provided. Pre-registration required: please email sgarner@coloradomesa.edu by October 15, 2021 to register. Explore your creativity with MED’s Temporary Graffiti Wall; spray paint provided. MED store will be providing schwag for purchase which will go for funding the student group’s scholarly activities. Throwing PARTY! Throw something on the wheel with Clay Club. The Ceramics Faculty and students will demonstrate wheel throwing and will teach anyone who is interested in trying. Wheels and clay are provided. There are “Blind Wheel Throwing” and “One Hand Wheel Throwing” contests with prizes! Clay Club will have an assortment of student ceramics pieces for sale. Get up and move with Dance Society! Dance Society is a student-run club at CMU that aims to support and provide opportunities for dancers as well as educate the greater CMU community about dance. Dance Society holds student directed and choreographed dance concerts every semester called Real Artistic Works. They also fundraise and offer support for dancers to attend outside training opportunities that will benefit their careers in the arts. Dance Society will be performing 10:00-11:00am. The AFP&MD Clubs and Department proudly presents portraits and caricatures by our talented illustrators, T-Shirts printed with 8x10 photograph prints of local landmarks taken by AFP&MD photographers, and a bake sale with free popcorn. It's road roller time with Printmaking Guild! The print makers will be live printing large woodcuts (up to 30" X 90"). Participants are welcome to bring their own large blocks or "grids" of smaller blocks for printing. Contact Professor Butler at jobutler@coloradomesa.edu by Sept 30, 2021 for participation details and so that we can be sure to have enough supplies. They will also be demonstrating live printing of woodcuts onto T-shirts and other apparel. These items will be for sale. Bring your own T-shirts to be printed and receive a discount. Turn up the heat with Sculpture Guild! Sculpture Guild will cast sculptures in molten iron during an Iron Pour. They will begin pouring around 10AM and won’t stop until all the molds are poured. There will be opportunities to win sculpture related prizes throughout the day! Come show your support and leave with original artwork. All proceeds from sales during Artober Fest benefit the individual student-run art clubs!
