original plays from local playwrights, Geek Parties Theatre has selected five to feature in The Playwrights Showcase. Each night will feature different works. The playwrights and the audience will be able to hear their words come to life on stage. The authors can use this public performance to improve and revise their work. Your attendance supports future writers from across the Western Slope by helping to fund the CMU High School Writer's Conference. Students invited to participate in the spring conference at no charge. It features breakout sessions with workshops to develop the young writers' skills and encourage talents across all genres. Keynote speakers have ranged from Poet Laureates to bestselling novelists. The conference concludes with the awards ceremony for a writing contest in three genres and a portfolio contest where CMU awards a scholarship to the winner. Note this showcase does not fund the scholarship portion of that event, but covers the costs of holding the event itself. We celebrate the geek within everyone, regardless of identity, culture, belief, or ability. We will do our best to accommodate our participants’ needs. You can email or message confidential accommodation requests. Geek Parties of the Grand Valley, a Colorado non-profit, is a loosely associated group of geeks who throw fandom parties for the general public. Geek Parties Readers Theatre is a relaxed community theater program for people of all ages and abilities, and it schedules performances at isolated populations like those in care homes, private events like at club meetings, and small party events at coffee houses and breweries.
