On the Trail is a rollicking journey that is all over the place. Bluegrass, alt-country, blues, zydeco, classic country, and even some Grateful Dead. You never know what I will play next. I really enjoy playing new music! But often the only good gauge for a good new song is a good old song.
I am inspired by my memories of sitting around the living room with my Mom playing records. We listened to everything from Santana to Willie and on to NILSSON SCHMILSSON.
Also shaping my life and musical tastes are memories of being in my dad’s honky tonk in Lubbock, Texas, playing records and entertaining the patrons. In the mornings I would play what ever instruments had been left on the band stand from the night before. Sometimes at night, I would be lulled to sleep while lying on the floor in the back office listening to the drone of the crowd and the shuffle of feet on the dance floor.
Some favorite albums are: RED HEADED STRANGER by Willie Nelson; LONESOME, ON'RY AND MEAN by Waylon Jennings; A BIGGER PIECE OF SKY by Robert Earl Keen; NO DEPRESSION by Uncle Tupelo; TRACE by Son Volt; GHOSTS OF HALLELUJAH by the Gourds; WAYLON AND WILLIE by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson; NEVER MIND THE BULLOCKS by the Sex Pistols; WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE VANDALS by the Vandals; EXODUS by Bob Marley and the Wailers; KIND OF BLUE by Miles Davis and on and on…
