Growing up in Redcliff, Colorado but with deep ties to New Mexico, we would always listen to 45 records and albums. Listening to Antonio Aguilar, Yolanda del Rio, Purple Haze and of course, Al Hurricane. I have always had a passion for music. When I was 13 years old, I bought my first and only electric guitar which I still have today. While attending Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, I was a member of the group, El Conjunto Nuevo Aztlan playing the guitar, performing in various locations.

After graduating with my Master’s degree in Education, my wife, Jane, and I moved to Leadville where I started my first DJ experience with KBRR Radio. That was in 1976. I played New Mexico music, rancheras, corridos, cumbias and bilingual music, which is unique to Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. That was a two-year span that I enjoyed very much.

In 1978 we moved to Fruita, Colorado where I taught Spanish at Fruita Monument High School, retiring after 31 years.

Around ten years ago, Jose Cruz got involved with KAFM as a board member with a vision of bringing New Mexico style music to the Grand Valley. He invited me join his team as a DJ to promote our music.

Many Grand Valley residents have ties to New Mexico, loving the music we play. Today, we have a great fan base not only locally but throughout the country. Being involved with KAFM, Fiesta Musical has helped make great connections with the New Mexico Artists. For several years as a member of Latin Anglo Alliance's Cinco de Mayo committee and in charge of entertainment and master of ceremonies, I was able to contract New Mexico bands to perform at the annual downtown celebrations.

Fiesta Musical brings exposure to many artists who record and play New Mexico style music. It brings enjoyment to our listeners, it allows me to do something I love and it brings culture and traditions from the Land of Enchantment for all to experience. Also, as a result of being a DJ for KAFM, I have had the honor to judge and be a presenter at the New Mexico Hispano Music Association Awards held in Española, New Mexico.

My passion and enthusiasm for music will continue as I bring you the beautiful New Mexico style music. Be sure to tune us in on KAFM 88.1 or here on the web on Sundays from 12 noon to 3 pm. Buenas tardes y adios.
