BLUEGRASS & BEYOND -- Veta
4 pm - 6 :30 pm, Mondays -- Bluegrass
I play bluegrass -- new and old, bluegrass with a twist, newgrass, jamgrass and traditional. Each show has a theme: artist or band, instrument, youth, etc., with pertinent (and non-pertinent) info.
Bio: Pisces, with two fish swimming different directions. Married with husband, two grown kids, one grand-daughter who loves bluegrass, two dogs and one cat who were left behind when the children left home
I was aware of music at an early age... Les Paul and Mary Ford on the radio in the early '50s, black r&b in the mid '50s thanks to my older sister, popular 45s thanks to my brother, classical thanks to my father, songs thanks to my mother. I knew all the popular music of the '60s from British sound to West Coast, to folk music from Greenwich Village and Appalachia, to soul, to Motown, and to old country (Hank Willliams), and '60s and early '70s FM rock. Because I spent time in different parts of the country (and the world) I became familiar with local sounds.
I like music that makes me feel good! I like to tap my toes and sing and dance.
"Dreams are free. If you don't have dreams, you don't have anything." I am inspired by people who chase their dreams.
What's on my iPod? I don't have one. My favorite artists are Alison Brown, Bob Dylan, Doc Watson, The Subdudes, the Boston Pops Orchestra, Sierra Hull, the Lovin' Spoonful, Jerry Douglas, Etta Baker, the Wilders and the Chieftains, to name only a few.
My recommendations: Listen to it all with an open mind. Experiment with sounds and styles. You might like only one OR you might like it all! I like Bluegrass because it lends itself to jazz, classical, folk, country and rock.
