Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" is a semi-autobiographical memory play that recounts the events leading to the downfall of the Wingfield family. One of the most frequently produced plays in America, The Glass Menagerie is a set against the backdrop of an America ravaged by the Depression. A mother abandoned by her husband, Amanda clings to memories of her idyllic youth in the South, while her daughter, Laura, is painfully shy, staying occupied with her collection of glass animals and living in a world of her own. Meanwhile, her, Tom, secretly dream of escape. A classic of twentieth century American Theatre, The Glass Menagerie is a brilliant and compelling portrait of a family in crisis. Rated G.
