In this workshop Hilary DePolo will use her exhibit PAST LIVES as a starting point to work with the development of characterization and drama in narrative poetry. Exercises in writing the character poem will be the focus of the morning; while the afternoon will be devoted to theatrical tips for the effective delivery of the written word. Workshop participants are asked to bring plenty of paper, pens, the obituaries of a newspaper far from your home town and a willingness to be silly - all to the end of a more intriguing poem and polished delivery.
Hilary DePolo is a published poet and playwright. This is her second ekphrastic exhibition of poetry and visual art. She has received awards for her poetry including residencies at the Ucross Foundation and the Jentel Artists Residency. She is an accomplished performance poet and an effective teacher. She believes in poetry so much that she makes sure people hear and understand all her words. Techniques that bring home the message are available to all writers. Need based scholarships are available. Please contact The Art Center for details at (970) 243-7337 ext.6.
