Grand Junction, CO (Sept. 24, 2012) – A brand new 5k event next month in Grand Junction will bring together able-bodied and disabled runners, walkers and rollers for a morning of competition, fun, food, and rock ‘n roll. The Spirit of the Valley 5k Run, Walk and Roll is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at 9 A.M., presented by Atlasta Solar Center.
The Spirit of the Valley 5k is for everyone! For competitive runners, there will be medals awarded to overall and age group winners, male and female, able-bodied and disabled. There will also be plenty of walkers, who prefer a more leisurely pace, and rollers, who may be on anything from wheelchairs to strollers to little red wagons.
The race will start at Spring Valley Park I (at the corner of Patterson Rd. and 27 ½ Rd.) and finish at St. Matthew’s Church (at 27 ½ Rd. and Cortland Ave.). It will be followed by a hearty buffet breakfast and rock ‘n roll by Terry McGovern and the Uranium Blues Band. Child care will also be available.
Register at spiritofthevalley5k.org.
Proceeds from the Spirit of the Valley 5k will benefit Colorado Discover Ability – which provides outdoor recreational opportunities for disabled people on the Western Slope – and SAMS (the Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders) – to support missionaries from Western Colorado working to provide health care in the Dominican Republic and helping AIDS orphans in Uganda.
