Quilters is the story of a pioneer woman and her six daughters. The musical depicts the hardships, challenges and joys of frontier life. Each scene is told by the story of 16 quilt blocks. Each represents a part of the life of women on the frontier....girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with all of this is also, love, warmth, humor, and the steadfast persistence of these women during adversity. In the end, the various quilt patches are assembled into one beautiful quilt.
Quilters was written by two Colorado women, Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. It was originally developed and produced at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Produces at the Denver Center and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the American National Theatre and Academy and Brockman Seawell at the Jack Lawrence Theatre in New York City.
Quilters celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Denver last year.
Our production coincides with the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Quilter’s Corner, Grand Junction’s local quilting shop. They are our corporate sponsor and have provided funding as well as constructing the quilt and quilt blocks to be used in the show.
Directed by Terri Schafer
