Art of the Child and Teen Program of Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado
A deeply moving collection of art by children exploring the themes of grief and loss.

KAFM 88.1 announced today that the Gallery @ The Radio Room is featuring art in collaboration with Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
The show features work done by The Child and Teen Program of Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado. It is the only program of its kind in Western Colorado that provides grief and bereavement services to children, teens and their families who are coping with the serious illness or death of a loved one. The artwork included in this exhibit was created by children ages 4 through 17 who have experienced the death of someone they loved. Some of the work was created to memorialize the person who died; others are simple or complex expressions of the feelings, experiences and memories associated with grief and loss.
The show will run through the end of June and there will be an opening reception at the Gallery on Thursday, June 9 from 5 to 7 pm.
The Radio Room is located at 1310 Ute Avenue, at the community station and is a multi- use facility that features films, concerts, and lectures, as well as a gallery.
"We are so pleased to be able to offer a venue to showcase such deeply personal and emotional work. The collection includes paintings, photography, mixed media," said KAFM Gallery Director, John Anglim.
Commenting on the exhibit, Joni Beckner, coordinator of the program, said, "We hope this exhibit will provide a forum for the viewer to acknowledge the losses of these young artists and by doing so, become a part of their healing. We also hope that by witnessing these creative expressions of loss and hope, you will become more aware of how young people experience grief and how art can be part of their healing and transformation."
Sales from the gallery help support the Valley's only local community station, which plays music of all genres programmed by volunteers, who play the music they love.
KAFM also features community affairs programming every day at noon.
