This April, ReelTime @ The Radio Room invites viewers to explore the complexities of religious faith in the inspiring documentary THE CALLING.

THE CALLING profiles four individuals of differing faiths and backgrounds as they pursue their calling to serve humanity by joining the clergy.

Produced by a team of multi-faith filmmakers, this cinematic journey provides valuable insight into the hearts and minds of future religious leaders and portrays the nuances of modern day faith more richly and deeply than anything before it.

Struggling with the universal issues of young adulthood -– dating, finances, friendships and career decisions -– the film’s subjects face the added difficulties of balancing religious convictions, establishing a connection with congregants and coping with spells of doubt and uncertainty, all of which play out dramatically in front of the camera.

THE CALLING takes us behind cloistered seminary walls to shed light on current issues facing religious communities while exploring the very nature of what makes good leaders, a query applicable to all areas of life.

THE CALLING began as a four-hour documentary series that aired over two nights on PBS as part of the Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning INDEPENDENT LENS series. From there, filmmakers created the 78-minute “Engagement” version, which is the version ReelTime will present.

Series director and Executive Producer Danny Alpert has worked in the documentary field as a producer, director and editor on a host of Oscar and Emmy nominated films that have aired on PBS, HBO and A&E and have screened at festivals around the world.

His extensive and acclaimed filmography includes A HISTORY OF GOD, LEGACY and NO TIME TO BE A CHILD. He is currently Executive Director of The Kindling Group in Chicago.

ReelTime @ The Radio Room brings THE CALLING to the Grand Valley on Thursday, April 21 at 7 pm in the KAFM Radio Room at 1310 Ute Ave. in Grand Junction.
