The Mesa County Fair Commercial Winemaker's Competition was a great success in 2011! Now it’s time for the fun part—tasting the wines! Mesa County Fair Board and KAFM are partnering for a fun event of wine tasting, music and refreshments on December 10 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm in the KAFM Radio Room. In addition to tasting the top award-winning wines of Mesa County, you can listen to music provided by Project Groove.
During the evening Steve Menke, associate professor of enology (the study of winemaking) at Colorado State University, will be providing short educational talks about how the wines are judged and giving more information about the competition and wineries in Mesa County in general. See which wines were rated the best in Mesa County.
“We have more wineries in Mesa County than anywhere else in the state,” said Mesa County Commissioner Steve Acquafresca. “Mesa County also produces 85 percent of Colorado’s wine grape crop. This contest really highlights the excellent grapes we grow here, which produce such high-quality wines, and are a boon to our local agricultural economy.”
More details about this wine tasting event are available at www.mesacountyfair.com, or you can call the Fair office at (970) 256-1528, or you can call KAFM radio at 970-241-8801, extension 201.
