The KAFM Radio Room presents Tony Babbitt on Saturday November 20 at 7 pm. Tony brings an evening of mythology and music and his personal journey with the Native American style flute.
Tony says an event early in his life gave him a deep respect for the Native American culture. Later, he heard the voice of this magnificent instrument, the Native American flute, and that respect deepened. I also set into motion a journey of discovery. He learned as much as he could about the history and craft of flute making. He was already an avid woodworker, and a fan of many types of music, so it made sense to him to begin the journey of creating his own flutes. After a year and a half of sawdust and a few stumbles along the way, Tony began to notice the change in his attitude toward daily life. He made more and more flutes. At the beginning he gifted some simply because he had so many in his personal collection. After a time, his collection grew, and then people started calling him, looking for a flute of their own. And so, Quahada Winds was born.
For Tony, creating flutes and Native American flute music is a journey of the spirit.
“From the moment I step into my shop, a journey begins, one that changes my entire day’s outlook. This gift the flute makers of the past have given to us is magnificent at the least. From the smell of the wood, to the first breath that gives a flute its voice, it is a journey I will always respect and cherish. To give a voice to any spirit is truly a gift indeed.”
Be sure to be there, Saturday November 20 at 7 pm with Tony Babbitt for a personal journey with the Native American style flute. Tickets are just $10.
